Last year we celebrated the 30th birthday of The Travel Weekly Globe Awards or The Globes as they are fondly known. Since their inception in 1977, The Globes have celebrated the industry's high flyers, strongest performers and hottest brands. Now in their 31st year they have become a byword for quality, class and achievement, the award that everybody wants to win.

This year the travel industry’s most prestigious ceremony has the new title of The Globe Travel Awards, presented by Travel Weekly in partnership with Associated Newspapers.

The change in the ceremony’s title is in recognition of the more prominent role the consumer awards will play at the event. These awards voted for by Associated Newspaper readers will now be handed out alongside their trade award counterparts instead of at a separate mini ceremony at the beginning of the evening. There is no change to the core trade awards though, they remain unique in the industry, voted for totally by agents.

It may be a new name, but the integrity of the awards and what it means to the recipients hasn’t changed. It’s still all about recognising the suppliers who service levels have shone through so much that agents have remembered that extra mile they went to and made the effort to reward than through ticking their box on the voting form.
