Outstanding Achievement Award 
John Hays of Hays Travel was recognised for significant contribution to the UK travel industry.  Having starting his business from a small room, almost 30 years later his company now has 34 shops in the North East, 3 call centres, 2 dedicated cruise shops, as well as over 300 home workers. John also runs the Hays Travel Independence Group, a consortium for independent retailers and now employs over 800 people with a record turnover last year of £350 million.

Innovation in Travel Award 
British Airways was presented with the award for their iphone application, which was the first from any airline and was timed to coincide with the launch of the iphone 3G. Within a short time the service received 60,000 downloads spread across 61 different countries.
